Me and the Disco Chicken

My favorite exhibit in Uptown’s Bechtler museum is right out front.

It’s a sculpture by Niki de Saint Phalle called “Firebird.” But it didn’t take long before someone renamed it the “Disco Chicken.”

Its myriad of mirror tiles attract attention from locals and tourists alike. Sometimes it’s as much fun to watch folks interact with the sculpture than to admire the D.C. itself.

And it provided me with a fun way to take a self-portrait, on a wonderfully sunny Saturday:

Self Portrait with the Disco Chicken
A sunny day and the Disco Chicken (aka "Firebird") make for a fine photo opportunity. February 2011

Meanwhile, there’s an assortment of other sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle , currently on display across the street from the Bechtler and the D.C. – in Green Park. More pics.
