I camped overnight while doing some trail work on the Appalachian Trail in July. I was the only human I saw.
Overnight, I started hearing this sound. Over and over. And getting closer.
I didn’t get much sleep after that.
Still don’t know what it was. Some kind of birds, maybe?

Several friends have told me the sounds are from barrel owls.
